Meyco safety covers are built to last many years. In fact, with proper handling and storage under normal weather conditions, it is not unusual for us to receive unsolicited testimonials from happy pool owners who tell us that their Meyco cover lasted much longer than our 12-year warranty.
Underwriters Laboratories (U.L.) is an outside safety consulting and certification company.
U.L. has performed all of the tests listed in the ASTM standard F1346-91 for manual safety covers guideline for Meyco. While other cover manufacturers will claim that their covers meet these ASTM guidelines, they have not independently verified these results with an external testing agency like Meyco has.
At Meyco we pay special attention to details to ensure our service standards never slip so that we can live up to the legendary service our customers expect. That’s why we partnered with U.L. to confirm that we not only meet, but actually exceed the ASTM safety guidelines for safety swimming pool safety covers.
In short, we earned the right to display the U.L. seal on our products.
Every Meyco cover is backed by a 12-year pro-rated warranty.
Our consistent manufacturing processes ensure your Meyco Pool Cover will fit perfectly and last over the long haul. That’s why we offer one of the most generous warranties in the industry. Our covers are built to last long.

Yes! If you have recently purchased a Meyco safety pool cover you can register your cover and automatically activate your warranty by filling out a short online form.
You sure can. Meyco maintains an updated computerized data base of all registered cover owners.
If the completed Meyco warranty card was mailed in (or submitted online) when your cover was received, we stored that information so that we can easily locate the specific plan for your cover.
We can access this information by using the warranty number, original owner’s name, and even street address. This process has proven to be particularly useful in situations where the house was sold and paperwork relating to the pool cover was lost.
Meyco will then send your cover information to your preferred pool dealer so that they can assist you with purchasing a Meyco replacement cover.
Yes it is! Meyco’s skilled craftsmen can expertly create a Meyco replacement cover that matches your current cover and – in most cases – will not require any re-drilling for new anchors.
There are several ways to do this, but the best way to start is to contact your pool dealer of choice and tell them that you want to replace your old, inferior cover with a Meyco!

In most cases, the answer is “Yes.” But, there are a few exceptions.
Meyco’s RuggedMesh and PermaGuard solid covers require certain spacing between the anchor locations. If you’re interested in changing to a RuggedMesh or PermaGuard solid cover, contact your local authorized Meyco dealer. We can work with them to review your pool specifications to determine the best Meyco cover for your pool.

A typical Meyco stock-sized safety covers can be installed and removed in about 15 to 20 minutes after the initial installation using the provided tensioning tool/installation rod. Large or custom covers may take longer. Here’s a quick video that guides you through how to store your cover while your pool is open.
- Each Meyco cover comes with a mesh drawstring storage bag that keeps the cover secure while your pool is open.
- Your Meyco cover should be folded and stored in its storage bag when not in use.
- Before folding, remove leaves and debris.
- MeycoLite covers do not need to be scrubbed down or powdered prior to storage.
- RuggedMesh covers should be hosed down from the bottom side to unclog filters.
- PermaGuard solid and RuggedMesh covers should be cleaned with a mild detergent and dried before storing.
- Store your cover in an area free of rodents.
- Always completely remove the cover when using the pool.
- Never swim in the pool with the cover partially installed.
Meyco’s Permaguard solid covers block 100% of the sun’s rays, reducing UV damage to your pool and allowing protective chemicals to remain in the water longer for a faster, cleaner pool opening in the spring. However, the solid material does not allow water to drain from the cover. A pump must be used at all times in order to maintain the safety of the cover.
PermaGuard solid covers will need regular maintenance during the winter months to keep cover clear of accumulated leaves and debris.

Before you cover and close your pool for the winter be sure the pool water is properly chemically treated. The water chemical level should be checked in early spring or when there is any period of warm temperature. Proper adjustment of chemicals should be made if necessary.
Follow this checklist of things you need to do when winterizing your pool:
- Do not drag the cover on decking or over the cover springs.
- Do not walk or jump on your Meyco cover. Only walk on your pool cover if it is an emergency situation. Walking or jumping on the cover may result in damage to the cover.
- Keep your cover drum tight to help reduce the chance of excessive wear. Abrasion strips are sewn to the cover to protect against normal coping wear.
- Your installer should identify sharp corners or rough areas around the pool area and add protective padding, if necessary. Vinyl padding or carpet remnants work very well for this.
- Never allow your pool’s water level to fall below 18” from the main deck level. A low water level will put excess stress on the cover and may result in cover and/or spring damage during periods of heavy snow accumulation. Any damage that occurs to your cover because of low water levels will void your warranty.
- Check your cover periodically to be sure the cover is secured drum-tight on the pool. Adjust the buckle positions to achieve the proper tension.
- Do not operate a barbecue grill, fire pit or a chiminea outdoor fireplace in the proximity of the cover as sparks or hot ash may settle on the cover causing small burn holes. During the winter months make sure your water levels are proper.
No! Maintaining the proper water level in your pool between swim seasons helps support the weight of snow and ice on your cover and prevents excess wear. Meyco recommends keeping the water level within 18” of the coping.
Damage to your cover that occurs if the proper water level is not maintained will not be covered under your Meyco 12-year pro-rated warranty.
Meyco safety covers use material that is designed to flex and stretch under pressure. When subjected to weight loads, the cover will depress until it comes in contact with the pool water. The water then acts as an additional support base and removes excess tension from the springs and webbing, extending the life of your cover and reducing the chance for stress tears and damage that may not be covered under your Meyco 12-year pro-rated warranty.
Algae growth is determined by a number of factors including the concentration of preventative chemicals, sunlight, air temperature and the length of time that the pool is closed.
For example, a pool closed just after Labor Day runs a greater risk of reduced chemical concentrations (and protection) than one which remained open until Thanksgiving.
The best way to prevent visible algae growth is to physically inspect the pool early in the spring, especially after a warm period (air temperature of 60 degrees or more). This can be done by simply unhooking a corner section (It is not necessary to remove the entire cover). If you suspect that algae is beginning to develop, add the appropriate chemicals at that time and reattach the cover.
You may need to repeat this procedure depending on weather conditions and the time remaining before the pool is finally opened.
If the pool will not be opened until late spring, you may want to hook up the equipment 30-60 days prior to opening your and run it several hours per week to create circulation which will also enhance the distribution of any algaecide.
During this time be sure to maintain frequent inspections since warmer weather may accelerate the depletion of algaecide chemicals.
Yes. You can leave your Meyco cover on the pool while operating the system. Be sure to keep the cover taut. Chemicals may be added to the pool water using a floating or automatic chlorinator. Chemicals should never be poured directly on the cover.
You can remove old anchors with a little bit of work and a few tools. The least expensive option is to purchase a number 7 screw extractor from a local hardware store, and with a little bit of elbow grease they often come right out.
A faster extraction method is to purchase a Wingmaster kit.
If there is no excess snow or other debris on your cover, a sagging cover could signify that your cover is improperly tensioned. Make sure that your straps are tight and that the springs are 50-75% compressed. You may need to do some adjustments to bring your cover to the correct level of tension.
If you have a RuggedMesh cover that looks like it is ponding excess water, that’s a good indicator that the mesh could be clogged and your cover may need to be cleaned. To clean your cover, use a soft bristle brush with some mild dish detergent to brush open the pores.
If you have a solid PermaGuard cover with a drain strip, confirm that your water level is 12-18” below the coping. A pump maybe needed to put on the top step of the pool to keep the water level and cover separate. For PermaGuard solid covers without a drain strip, a pump must be used at all times in order to maintain the safety of the cover
Completing and returning your Meyco cover warranty card is a very important step and will be very helpful in the future if your cover is ever damaged or needs replacing.
Meyco keeps a complete library of every cover that we design. Your cover’s unique plan number is printed on the warranty card that came with your cover information. By completing and submitting Meyco’s warranty form, we can easily match you specific set of plans with your address. As a result, we can quickly locate the original plan when the cover needs to be replaced so that you don’t have to incur the additional expense of re-measuring your pool.
Submitting the warranty card, also activates your Meyco 12-year pro-rated warranty. This is also crucial when addressing warranty issues if they should arise.
You can complete the warranty card that came with your cover and mail it to Meyco with the pre-addressed card. Be sure to include the date you purchased your pool cover and the name of your dealer.
You can also complete the online Warranty Registration form.
If you cannot find your warranty form and do not want to complete the online form, you can download the form online here and mail the completed form back to Meyco.
Meyco’s custom covers are specifically manufactured for each individual pool and cannot be returned or exchanged.
Before you order your Meyco cover, consult with an Authorized Meyco dealer to make sure that the type of cover (MeycoLite Mesh, RuggedMesh or PermaGuard solid) is the right cover for your pool.
Also consider the color of the cover and how important it will be to your family that it blends with and accentuates your pool area. Here’s where you can learn more about the types of materials and colors available for Meyco covers.
Meyco created this short video that demonstrates how to fold your cover.
The best way to pack your cover is to fold the cover the long way, like an accordion. Then roll the cover like a like sleeping bag. Next, tie a string or rope on the ends to keep it secure.
You can pick up a box from your local U-Haul, big-box retailer, UPS or FedEx that’s the correct dimension to hold your folded cover. Try to fit your cover in the smallest box possible (ex. 47”x20”x19” or smaller) to reduce your shipping costs.
Before sending your cover to Meyco, be sure to contact your Meyco dealer and tell them your Meyco cover needs repair. Next, Meyco will issue you – or your Meyco dealer – a Return Goods Authorization (RGA) form that will schedule your cover for an inspection by our restoration team.
You’ll need to include the number from the RGA form on the package so that Meyco’s receiving department can deliver it to our Restoration Center immediately upon arrival.
After obtaining your Return Authorization form and adding that number to your package, the cover can be dropped off at your local UPS or FedEx Store for delivery.
Damage to hardware is not covered under Meyco’s 12-year pro-rated warranty.
Torn straps, bent springs and similar damage to your hardware are typically clear indications of an excessively heavy load on your cover (often snow and/or ice). This type of damage may also indicate that your pool’s water level has fallen below 18” from the coping.
If the water is well below the skimmer, and sometimes below the return, it means that the pool was half empty and below the 18” from the coping. Water acts as buoyancy barrier and provides the cover extra support during the closing season so it’s important to keep adequate water in your pool during the winter months.
Meyco’s Restoration Center is the easy way to schedule a repair for your cover. Your first step is to contact your Meyco dealer and tell them your Meyco cover needs repair. Next, Meyco will issue you – or your Meyco dealer – a Return Goods Authorization (RGA) form that will schedule your cover for an inspection by our restoration team. Step 3 requires shipping your cover back to Meyco for a thorough inspection.
Meyco developed a great video that shows you how to fold your cover so that you can ship it back to Meyco. Once your cover is packed and ready to ship, you’ll need to include the number from the RGA form on the package so that Meyco’s receiving department can deliver it to our Restoration Center immediately upon arrival. Our Restoration Center’s thorough restoration process includes a detailed inspection and complete review of cover “trouble spots.” Meyco’s restoration team repairs areas of wear and tear so that your Meyco cover returns home as good as new or recommends a new Meyco cover to protect your family and your swimming pool.
For decks and/or coping that are rough, Meyco can add padded anti-abrasion strips to your cover. These strips provide added protection at typical wear points where webbing straps ride over the coping edge.
Strategically sewn into the cover at key points, Meyco’s padded anti-abrasion strips protect your cover with a 1” foam barrier between the surface and cover, providing extra protection for both. It works great for tiled walls or extra rough coping.
Extra precaution must be taken by the installer or pool owner in those areas with rough coping or sharp corners. Meyco recommends the use of additional padding (vinyl or rubber sheeting or carpet remnants) to prevent any excessive wear.
Meyco’s warranty does not cover damage to covers that is caused by rough coping or sharp edges.
When installing your cover for the first time or for the winter season, do not drag your cover over any abrasive surface like rough coping. Dragging the cover over concrete, brick or other abrasive surfaces will cause damage not covered by the warranty.
You sure can! Meyco has 9” or 18” pipe anchors for paver/patio decking that is above dirt or sand. Our standard, regular screw type or pop up anchors work perfectly for a patio/paver deck that has concrete underneath. Either anchor option will keep your cover taut in between swim seasons.
Yes. Meyco made small modifications to our pop up anchors to improve their performance, but this updated design can still be used with the old casing.
Anchors that are not Meyco brand anchors, may not fit securely in Meyco’s anchor casings. If you aren’t sure if your anchor is a Meyco, check the head of the anchor. Every Meyco anchor has the word MEYCO stamped on the head.
If you don’t see MEYCO on the head of your anchor, it’s not a Meyco!
Great news! All Meyco deck anchors set flush into the deck when not in use. The threaded or pop-up inserts easily secure back into the anchor with the special hex key provided with each cover.
Our MeycoLite, RuggedMesh and PermaGuard covers are made from strong, durable materials and are hugged tight to the deck and secured under tension through a series of straps sewn into the cover that are then attached to heavy duty springs. These springs are placed over anchors permanently set into the deck around the perimeter of the pool. When not in use, anchors are recessed so as to be flush with the decking to avoid accidents.
Meyco also offers our patented PolyGuard material that – when applicable – can be added to our covers to form a snug seal around rocks or raised walls and other elevated areas around a pool to keep leaves and debris from sneaking under tiny gaps around raised walls, curved edges and extrusions.
Maybe. But not always. The cable would be used at the pool professional’s discretion and is dependent on the type of installation.
In some cases, a cover can be directly installed into the wall with snap hooks into the eyelets (this is what we call a direct install). In that instance, no cable would be required. In other situations, an installer may choose to run a cable through the wall anchors.
Either the cable install or direct install are both accepted options.
A safety pool cover creates a secure, taut material barrier over a swimming pool. In order for a cover to be considered a “safety cover”, it must meet specific standards set by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
According to the ASTM guidelines, (ASTM F 1346-91), safety covers must be able to support a specific amount of weight and must not allow gaps around the perimeter of a pool that a child or pet might be able to squeeze through. The cover must also meet certain standards for surface water removal and proper labeling.
All Meyco covers exceed these ASTM standards.
Our MeycoLite, RuggedMesh and PermaGuard materials are strong, durable materials and are hugged tight to the deck through a series of straps sewn into the cover that are then attached to heavy duty springs and brass anchors that are made in the U.S.A. Your pool professional will secure these anchors to your pool decking during installation.
Meyco also offers our patented PolyGuard material that – when applicable – can be added to our covers to form a snug seal around rocks or raised walls and other elevated areas around a pool. This helps keep leaves and debris from sneaking under tiny gaps around raised walls, curved edges and extrusions.
In contrast, a “regular” pool cover is really just a tarp that you can put over your pool. It does not have to meet specific criteria for weight and is not designed to prevent children or pets from getting underneath the cover and into your pool.
At this time, Meyco does not offer safety fences.
It sure did.
We received an unsolicited report from a Meyco safety cover owner documenting an incident where a Meyco cover prevented an automobile from sinking to the bottom of a pool.
This dramatically demonstrates the combined effect of the pool water acting in conjunction with the cover to support excessive weight.
In order for a cover to be considered a “safety cover”, it must meet specific standards on the amount of weight it can hold. Those standards are set by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
According to the ASTM guidelines, (ASTM F 1346-91), a safety cover installed on a pool with a width or diameter greater than 8 ft. from the periphery must be able to hold a weight of 485 lbs. (2 adults and 1 child).
All Meyco covers exceed the ASTM guidelines for safety and are designed to easily support the weight on the cover.
However, we do not recommend ever walking on the cover unless it is an emergency situation. No one should be allowed to play on top of a cover and adult supervision is always required when children or pets are around the swimming pool year round.
To clean off debris or an excess snow load in the winter months, Meyco recommends using a long handled broom.
As a pool cover owner, it is your responsibility to periodically check your cover for signs of wear, tears or other damage that may impact the integrity and safety of the cover. You can learn how to inspect your cover here.
Having “layers of protection” is vital when considering pool safety and your family’s security.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about one in five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger. For every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries.
Even the most attentive adult can be distracted, and there’s a number of videos and news articles online that report the tragic news of small children gaining access to pools – often on neighboring properties – before any adult was aware that they were in danger.
A safety cover is another layer of protection you can use to help ensure no one will be able to gain access to your pool.
Meyco does not recommend ever walking on the cover unless it is an emergency situation.

YES! Others may claim it, but in 1957, Fred J. Meyer, Jr., the founder of Meyco Products, invented the safety pool cover. In 1960, he was awarded a U.S. patent for his groundbreaking design.
That means Meyco actually LAUNCHED the pool cover industry. You can’t get more ORIGINAL than that.
For more on this subject visit ABOUT MEYCO.
Every MEYCO cover is made in the U.S.A.
Our covers are created by our team of highly skilled designers at our headquarters in Melville, NY and then manufactured at our 135,000 square foot facility in Moore, SC.
With more than 60 years of innovation under our belts, you can have confidence that a Meyco cover will out-perform the competition, every time.
Making a decision, based on price alone can be misleading if you only compare the initial cost of a Meyco safety cover to an ordinary cover.
When the initial cost of a Meyco safety cover is prorated over an average life expectancy of 12 years or longer, the annualized amount may actually be less than cheaper covers that will need to be replaced more frequently. Many Meyco covers last far longer than their 12-year warranty.
Over that same amount of time, you would have purchased and discarded several inferior covers. Also, the added cost of installing and removing solid covers is often forgotten except on the day you receive a bill from the service company that performed these services.
The cost of a Meyco mesh safety cover reflects the use of high quality materials such as solid brass anchors and stainless steel springs.
As the ORIGINAL winter safety cover, Meyco sets the standards on cover design and reliability.
For over 60 years, Meyco’s skilled craftsmen have followed founder Fred J. Meyer’s Path to Quality to be sure that a Meyco pool cover is a safety cover that you can depend on.
For each new cover design, Meyco’s proprietary software runs a 5-point measure check ensuring all dimensions add up. From frequent measure verifications to our comprehensive 14-step final inspection, you can rely on the quality of every Meyco pool cover.
Our white, polyester bonded marine thread has the highest UV protection available and our webbing is up to 45% stronger than materials used in other, inferior covers. Plus our stainless steel spring and solid brass anchors are made right here in the U.S.A.
Meyco has a long history in the pool cover business. As a manufacturer, we work directly with pool professionals to assist homeowners in choosing the Meyco cover that will work best for them.
Pool professionals are able to provide accurate measurements of your pool to be sure your cover fits great. They also know how to properly install your cover so that your warranty isn’t voided by an unsafe installation.

Every Meyco pool cover has MEYCO woven right into the webbing and straps. We also sew a safety/warning label near the edge of each cover. That label should have the Meyco logo clearly visible. Our anchors also have the word MEYCO stamped on the head of each anchor.
If you don’t see MEYCO on the cover, it’s not a Meyco!
All Meyco covers are marketed under the MEYCO trademark. Our PermaGuard solid, MeycoLite mesh and RuggedMesh brand materials are all associated exclusively with MEYCO.
If a dealer tries to convince you that they have “another” brand of MEYCO, think twice before doing business with them.

MEYCO offers three different material options so that you can choose the type of cover that will work best for your pool and your lifestyle.
- MeycoLite™ mesh covers are made from the original safety pool cover material. MeycoLite mesh is lightweight and durable but also strong and reliable. This lightweight mesh outperforms competitor’s cumbersome, heavy tarps without sacrificing the dependable protection and heavy-duty durability that you demand to keep your family safe. Plus, MeycoLite covers are designed to allow water to drain from the surface of the cover so leaves dry up and blow away. MeycoLite is perfect for any size pool – even large commercial and resort pools are protected with MeycoLite covers.
- PermaGuard™ solid covers are the preferred choice for pool owners who want super-clean pool openings. In addition to keeping your family safe between swim seasons, PermaGuard solid covers reduce evaporation, keep chemicals in your swimming pool longer, guard against UV damage and protect your pool from falling debris for a faster, cleaner pool opening in the spring.
- RuggedMesh™ covers give you the best of both worlds – the flexibility of a self-draining mesh cover combined with the cleaner pool opening that a solid cover can give. RuggedMesh pool covers weigh 50% less than a typical solid safety cover and the special weave allows water to drain from the surface while filtering out finer particles. RuggedMesh covers will block more sunlight and offer greater strength than standard mesh covers. The result –Cleaner water – Less maintenance.
- MeycoLite™ mesh covers are available in our ORIGINAL green plus blue, black, gray and mocha.
- PermaGuard™ solid covers are available in green, blue and black.
- RuggedMesh™ covers are available in green, blue, gray and mocha.
We don’t recommend doing that.
In order to qualify as a safety pool cover and maintain Meyco’s 12-year pro-rated warranty, the cover must fit the exact shape of your swimming pool.
If a cover is too large – or not shaped to fit your pool – there may be overlap on the deck or into landscaped areas. If this occurs, your cover will wear much faster and could sustain damage not covered by the warranty.
As needed, Meyco covers have abrasive wear strips sewn on the underside of the webbing for added protection in areas where they come in contact with the coping edge. The use of a rectangular cover means that certain straps will not have these strips or they will not line up over the coping. This could result in excessive wear that is not covered under warranty.
Using a cover that is not designed to fit your pool’s shape will also keep you from being able to properly tension the cover – voiding all safety features and the pro-rated warranty.
If you have a custom-shaped pool, a swimming pool professional can provide the proper measure and installation for a properly fitted and tensioned cover that will keep your pool secure.

We LOVE a challenging pool!
MEYCO has a number of unique and functional design treatments and hardware that will let us design a cover for almost every in-ground pool built.
As a matter of fact, Meyco recently designed a cover that required 40,000+ square feet of material, 30,000 feet of webbing and more than 700 straps for a massive lazy river. Watch the video here.
Meyco’s cover designers have also created some of the best specialty design features in the industry. You can learn more about our custom pool cover design features here.
Custom covers can be shipped in 1-2 weeks from the time your pool dealer submits the order to us (and any technical or design questions are answered).
Meyco stock covers can be shipped in 24-48 hours from the time your pool dealer confirms the order.
There are a few thing that can cause water to “pond” on your mesh cover.
Springs should be compressed 50-75% around the cover. Properly compressing the springs will tighten the cover and may resolve the issue. Improperly installed, sagging covers may pond water and could void your warranty if damage occurs. Keeping your cover taut with properly compressed springs will also protect the longevity of your cover.
Sometimes the mesh material we use on our covers has a waxy residue left over from our suppliers’ manufacturing process. That’s a normal occurrence and can take 1-2 seasons to break down. The water will continue to drain, it may just drain a little more slowly than normal.
RuggedMesh covers drain more slowly than MeycoLite covers and sometimes require winter maintenance due to their tighter weave – especially if there is a lot of rain. The tighter weave on a RuggedMesh cover filters our finer particles in the water as it passes through. If water continues to sit on the surface of your RuggedMesh cover, check the springs to be sure they are compressed properly.
